The Sitting Room
The sitting room was the location for everyday activities. Small children may have played in the sitting room. Of course, middle-class children would have been expected to practice reading at home, perhaps aloud from the Bible. Adults could read, work, or gather to talk.
The desk under the picture window belonged to Socrates Rand, who can be considered the founding father of Des Plaines. He was an early settler and namesake for Rand Road.
