Curator of Collections Siobhan Heraty leads this Coffee Talk on the Des Plaines History Center’s newest exhibit: “Women in Des Plaines.” Women’s vital role in the development of this community is often obscured and hidden. The further one goes into the past, the less likely it is that the work and achievements of women were acknowledged in the historical record. The stories of Des Plaines’ women pioneers, and those of ordinary women who did quietly extraordinary things, will be featured in this exhibit to help us tell a more complete story of Des Plaines.
All members of the public are welcome to attend “Women in Des Plaines.” The History Center’s Coffee Talks are a series of adult programs meant to invite public participation and discussion on a broad range of historical topics per the History Center’s mission. Donations are appreciated. The next Coffee Talk will be “Remnants of the Illinois Wilderness” on Thursday, June 8th at 1:30pm. This program is free thanks to our generous sponsors: Kiwanis Club of Des Plaines and Village Bank & Trust.
