Everyone has their own special family dish that has been passed down for generations, all with a unique story behind the recipe. Since 2009, Catherine Lambrecht has judged Family Heirloom Recipes contests, where contestants enter their best recipes passed down from family members, on behalf of Greater Midwest Foodways in Illinois as well as the rest of the Midwest area. This presentation offers an opportunity to follow the judging experience with curated histories, recipes and pictures of displays submitted at the Illinois State Fair. Catherine will also share some of the wonderful stories she’s collected over the years, including a long-standing family argument over the best asparagus soup, and a family of mushroom collectors preserving old country traditions. Audience members are encouraged to bring their own family recipes and stories to share!
