Coffee Talk to shine a light on electricity

The Des Plaines History Center invites the public to its Coffee Talk, “The History of Electricity,” Thursday, August 20, from 1-3 p.m. at the Des Plaines Public Library, 1501 Ellinwood Street. A $3 donation is suggested.

A speaker from Commonwealth Edison will highlight the key milestones in the harnessing of electricity, starting with the ancient Greeks. The audience will also learn how Thomas Edison and ComEd helped bring electricity to northern Illinois.

In addition, the presentation will cover aspects of the future of electricity, such as smart grid technology and smart meters. An electric car will be on display for guests to see close-up.

Come and be illuminated at this unique educational program designed by ComEd specifically for historical societies.
